When we started preparing to buy a home, we were expecting to be working with a stereotypical sleazy Realtor®, which in no way reflected what we got working with Matt and Emily. My husband and I are first-time home buyers and primarily worked with Matt throughout our search and purchase. Matt happened to be hosting the first open house we went to, and he was able to answer all of our (many) questions about buying a home. Having never purchased a home before, we had a lot of questions that Matt was great at answering and explaining in a way that made sense without being condescending. Matt has a background as a Real Estate attorney and some expertise in finance prior to becoming a Real Estate agent, so he is extremely qualified and thorough at his job. Matt was great at providing advice when asked but definitely refrained from any unsolicited advice and opinions. He let us run the show but provided necessary guidance, which we appreciated since he’s the expert. It took us about a month of serious searching to find the right house for us. Matt set us up to get emails with houses that met our criteria and once we saw them listed we knew we wanted to act on them quickly. Matt got us in to see it the next day and had our offer written up the day after that. We told Matt what we wanted and he offered guidance to sharpen the offer. During the offering process, Matt walked us through the ins and outs of an appraisal tolerance and spent a lot of time explaining different financial options to us. Matt felt confident enough in our offer to schedule an inspection ahead of our offer being accepted. His foresight was really useful in getting us a quick inspection period. He set us up with a top-notch inspector who he used for his own house. We went over the inspection report with Emily, who provided some great insight, especially considering she hadn’t been working directly with us prior to this. She made sure she was knowledgeable about our purchase and helped us decide what to ask the sellers for. Our inspection went well, however, our appraisal came back with less than satisfactory results. The appraiser said our house was worth $12,500 less than our offer. Matt really went above and beyond with this. He did a substantial amount of research of his own and put together a compelling spreadsheet to outline why he thought the appraisal was too low. He was extremely thorough and really went to bat for us and got the appraiser to increase the appraisal by $12,000 dollars, which is pretty rare. Matt and his team got the rest of our close wrapped up ahead of schedule. Matt came to our signing and helped explain some of the nuances to us. When we got the keys to the house, we discovered that the sellers had forgotten to leave the washer and dryer for us. We brought it to Matt who immediately contacted the sellers and helped us figure out fair compensation for it. Matt and Emily (and their team) definitely exceeded our expectations. They went above and beyond what we ever hoped we would get from an agent. They are great at their jobs, and overall wonderful people to work with. They are prompt, kind, intelligent, and genuine people. We are overjoyed to have found our dream house, but it’s a little sad to be done working with Matt and Emily, we spent so much time working with them that they felt more like friends than our Realtor®.
